PURPOSE AND GOVERNANCE:
THE KEY TO A world of Wellbeing

Wellbeing through
Purpose & Governance

Three decades of immersion in leadership and academic conversations globally, has revealed to me that we are often saying the same thing about what is driving decisions that are harming us and about how to resolve issues - but in slightly different ways, various levels of clarity and focused on different parts of the puzzle.

I believe we don’t have a lack of purpose-driven energy for deep change, but a crises of confidence to lead for a future that doesn’t yet exist. This can only be enabled through a sense of unity about where we are moving from and to. This is not about what products or services we want to create but how we want to work to govern ourselves, our organizations and our economies so that they generate and protect the value we value. In other words purpose-driven governance that optimises the long-term wellbeing for all people and the planet.

Along with my colleague Lorenzo Fioramonti, we set out in the diagram below that at the heart of bad decision-making is the deeply held idea that financial income is a good proxy for our long-term collective wellbeing. This has led us to govern for a GDP economy, serviced by profit-driven organisations and powered by financially focused work and lives.

We need a new market economy that is:

Macro

A Wellbeing Economy: anchored to long-term wellbeing for all people and planet (sustainability) as the goal.

Meso

Purpose-Driven Organisations: organisations whose "reason to exist is an optimal strategic contribution to long-term wellbeing for all people and planet" (PAS 808: 2022).

Micro

Meaningful and purposeful work and lives: humans empowered to serve the Wellbeing Economy through their work in Purpose-Driven Organisations.

Whole system change is required, but we don’t have to fix everything at once. Systems thinking tell us that we can focus on key points of influence. I have centred in on four strategic pillars that I see as most effective for creating and sustaining the change required: Purpose, Governance, Marketing, and Leadership and Culture.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What type of projects do you take on?

I usually work on B2C software, that's my forte--where I shine best. But I also have about 15 B2B software products in my portfolio. I do end-to-end product design + branding.

What is your hourly rate?

I only charge hourly for my ongoing projects that need work on the regular. One-time projects are charged upfront to keep it transparent and clean! My hourly rate is $100.

What time-zone do you work in?

I work Pacific Standard Time, but I'm always ready to help out in emergencies, no matter the hour.

What is the typical timeline for a project?

Depends on the scope of the project, really. Some projects take less than a week. Some take months. The best way to find out is to get on a quick call with me, and discuss it. No strings attached!

How do you charge for projects ?

I quote a price upfront--so that you know exactly what you're paying and for what, and there are no surprises later. The exact cost of your project depends on the scope and requirements!

What does your design process look like?

I take a problem-forward approach. Whether we're iterating on an existing product or building a new one from scratch, how to solve the user's problem in the simplest way possible is my first concern.

Send me an email to understand my process in depth!

What metrics do you use to measure success?

The best metrics are customer adoption, happiness, task success, and engagement. There are a number of frameworks such as the System Usability Scale that help us understand product performance and I'm happy to help with that.

What if I need help after the project is complete?

I always make sure to help out my clients one month after the project ends, for free. For any help post that, we can work out an ongoing arrangement!
